Tehtnica nam prikazuje trenutni pretok materiala na transportnem traku, ki je izra\u017een v t\/h pri ve\u010djih pretokih ali kg\/h, kadar gre za manj\u0161e pretoke. Razen trenutnega pretoka nam tehtnica izra\u010dunava tudi koli\u010dino prete\u010denega materiala , izra\u017eeno v t ali kg, kadar gre za nizke koli\u010dine oz. nizek pretok materiala. Tehtnica omogo\u010da tehtanje materiala v industriji, kjer druga\u010dne oblike tehtanja niso izvedljive iz tehni\u010dnih razlogov (premogovni\u0161tvo, skladi\u0161\u010da razsutega tovora, kamnolomi itd.). Druga zna\u010dilnost tehtnice, je ta, da proces transporta materiala med tehtanjem ni prekinjen, saj se tehtanje odvija\u00a0 med obratovanjem traku in to brez ustavljanja le &#8211; tega. S pomo\u010djo izhodov (Profibus, Ethernet, Analogni izhod, Impulzni\u00a0 izhod\u00a0 ipd) iz tehtnice pa je mo\u017ena tudi regulacija oz. krmiljenje raznih dozatorjev, frekven\u010dnih regulatorjev
